Silverpoint, and metalpoint in general, is a process where a small piece of metal wire is used as a drawing tool on a prepared surface. The metal leaves a mark, much as pencil lead does, but because the material is harder the lines are very fine. The metals oxidize over time, meaning that the drawings subtly change color with exposure to light and air.
